Popularization of science - Youtube channels

For several years, I regularly watch some (more or less) popular science videos on YouTube. Here are some of my recommendations: channels with less subscribers are sorted first.

All fields of science

Scilabus is made of 10-20 min videos focusing on curious facts that may arise in your daily life. The bibliographic research underlying each video is really interesting and the handmade animations are cute.

ScienceEtonnante is made of 20-40 min videos which enter into more mathematical details. The tradeoff between over-simplification and technicality is well achieved and the graphical animations are often self-explicatory.

C’est pas sorcier is a well known french TV show which started in the 90’s. It surely has nourished and increased my scientific curiosity.

Veritasium is made of 20-40 min videos on a super wide variety of topics. The quality of the videos is very high.

Kurzgesagt – In a Nutshell is made of 10-20 min videos with cartoonish illustrations.

Mathematics

Mathémusique is a recent channel dealing with the links between mathematics and music. A delightful emphasis is made on the circle representation of rhythms.

Very normal is a quite recent channel dealing with advanced statistics. Emphasis is made on insightful technical details and some applications fields (especially the medical one).

Chat sceptique is made of 5-10 min videos dealing with basic statistics. It mainly targets people with poor statistical background with an emphasis on common errors and misunderstandings regarding probability and statistics.

Numberphile is made of 10-20 min videos. Each video features a fun fact presented by a researcher. It usually starts with basic mathematics and ends with active areas of research.

3Blue1Brown is made of 30 min videos with super high quality. The originality and quality of the visualizations and animations bring original insights to both standard or more exotic topics.

Other fields

GMilgram is made of 30 min videos dealing with esotericism and pseudo-science. It shows how they may influence our daily lives.

La Tronche en Biais deals with critical thinking, skepticism and zététique. It is really interesting in order to learn and practice critical thinking.

Monsieur Phi is made of > 30 min videos dealing with philosophy with an emphasis on reasoning (close to mathematical logic). This proximity to mathematics helped me to reconcile myself with philosophy. The recent videos about LLMs and thinking are insightful.

Heu?reka is made of > 30 min videos dealing with economy and finance with an emphasis on toy examples with numerical details. This proximity to mathematics helped me to reconcile myself with the economic field.

Fouloscopie is made of 20 min videos dealing with the study of crowd behavior. It has obvious links with lots of applied mathematics fields (game theory, graph theory, interacting particles, etc.).
